Every year since 1970, the Parliamentary Internship Programme has welcomed 10 young professionals to Parliament Hill from September through June. The paid, non-partisan interns are selected through a national competition. Each intern works full-time for both an opposition and government Member of Parliament. During their internship, Parliamentary interns meet with senior policymakers, diplomats, journalists, scholars, politicians, and leaders in civil society. The interns take part in academic seminars, write an innovative academic research paper, share their knowledge of Parliament with young Canadians, and take part in legislative study tours to Québec, Brussels, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Nunavut.
The Senate hires students throughout the year to work in various areas of the Senate Administration. Areas: Legislative services, finance, human resources, communications, information management, internal audit and strategic planning, protective services, etc. Work during summer (May to August) or school year (September to April). Application deadline: January (Senate of Canada), May (House of Commons). Must be a Canadian Citizen or a PR.
Each year, 40 students are selected from high schools and CEGEPs across Canada to come to Ottawa to work as Pages in the House of Commons. Pages have the opportunity to learn about the House of Commons while witnessing the legislative process first hand. Deadline for summer program: May.
The foundation offers five 10-month paid internships at the National Assembly to Québec university graduates. This unique experience allows interns to familiarize themselves with the workings of the Assembly and involves in a variety of work. Must study 1 year in Laval University. Deadline: February.
